    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

     

    Apply insulation material to exposed surfaces of pipes, hot or cold air ducts, boilers, steam generators, tanks and other vessels. Remove existing insulation to required size and shape using hand saw, knife and other tools. Clip metal bands to pipe insulation to secure insulation on pipes and fit sections of pipe insulation to pipe surface. Cover flat surfaces of tanks and vessels by spot welding studs to surface and afsten kalo other material with wire. Layout, cut and fit metal covering on insulation materials where required.

    Responsibilities

    SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

     

    1. Remove existing insulation from pipe or vessels.

     

    1. Climb ladders to access leak in pipe rack or work from scaffold when required.
    2. Remove sufficient insulation to allow pipefitters to repair leak or breakage.
    3. Put insulation in large plastic bag for removal. Bag may weigh up to 25 pounds.
    4. Remove bag from rack.
    5. Work requires use of basic insulator tools, i.e., knife, saw, snips, screwdriver, etc.

     

        1. Apply insulation to exposed pipes or vessels.
          1. Use tape measure to determine material requirements.
          2. Determine type, size, thickness of insulation required.
          3. Move material to location required.
          4. Use rope pulley to raise material up in rack.
          5. Cut insulation to size and shape required using saw, knife, etc. Work often requires close tolerance measuring and cutting to fit insulation around pipe banks, valves and other irregular shapes.
          6. Seal joints using caulking gun.
          7. Layout and cut metal jacket material using snips and rippers.
            1. Work may be performed in shop or at ground level often taking actual measurements.
            2. Rolls of metal may weight up to 50 pounds.
          8. Use bander to install metal jacket – bander including banding material weight is 15 to 20 pounds

     

      1. Make repairs to brick work in heaters.
        1. Climb ladders/stairs to get to location where firebrick is to be removed.
        2. Remove existing brick by hand or use basic hand tools, which may include a 20 pound jackhammer to loosen and remove.
        3. Remove brick from heaters using buckets or other similar containers.
        4. Weld studs to heater walks using 30 pound stud welder.
        5. Reinstall brick work – fit on and around stainless steel rods.
          1. One bag of refractory weights up to 100 pounds and must be dumped into wheel barrows and mixed with hoe.
          2. One bag of plastic refractory weights up to 100 pounds and sometimes must be carried up stairs to be used inside boilers.

     

      1. Erect and remove scaffold.
        1. Level base prior to erection.
        2. Install sections of “Safeway” type scaffold and build up to required height. Not to exceed 30 feet.
        3. Install required work platform per OSHA requirement.
        4. Assure that scaffold meets all safety related requirements.

     

    Qualifications

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     

    1. Climb ladders up to 100 feet (4 to 10 times daily).
    2. Climb stairs up to 200 feet to work on platforms.
    3. Lift material and/or tools up to 50 pounds and carry up ladders and stairs up to 10 times per day

     

     

    Work positions

    1. Squatting.
    2. Crawling (to reach work position).
    3. Lying on back with work overhead.
    4. Extended reach in front and overhead.
    5. Sitting.
    6. Walking. Standing (for long periods of time on concrete floors).
    7. Bending and twisting.
    8. Kneeling.
    9. Work at heights 200 feet plus.
    10. Work in confined spaces
    11. Climb in and out of manways.
    12. Operate transportation vehicles within plant.
    13. Work outside in temperature above 100 degrees and/or below freezing.
    14. Physically able to work extended shift not to exceed 16 continuous hours.

    All qualified candidates must be willing to pass a pre-employment physical, pre-employment drug test, and a criminal background check.
